It's been a good year for the roses.

this is the best country singer, his voice and lyrics take me home.
'he stopped loving her today, they placed a wreath upon his door, and soon they'll carry him away....'

'well the race is on and here comes heartache...'

what's left to say?

as you turn and walk away,
the only thing I know to say,
it's been a good year for the roses....

I wish I could talk to this man
he was a poet
his lyrics so powerful
i hope he wrote them

Alas, he didn't write the song himself.

He is THE best country singer!

RE "He stopped loving her today": Funnily, he didn't even want to do the song to begin with--he thought it was hokey! I personally don't love it, but I fully recognized its power when my sister-in-law, who doesn't at all like country music, was listening years ago to a tape I made for my brother with this song on it... She said she was doing dishes or something, but when the song came on, just had to stop and listen, and then cry!

p.s. On my dedication page for my Master's thesis at San Fran State, he's one of the people I cite: "To George Jones, whose music's sadness and soul and spirit got this Texas girl through San Francisco and grad school."
